Welcome to Digital Nomad NI, a blog born on the backroads of the North, where we document vanlife, remote work, and the occasional existential crisis when the Jackery runs low.
We started this journey with a second-hand van, a half-broken kettle, and the delusion that mobile internet would be “good enough.” Fast-forward a few years and we’re still at it, travelling around Northern Ireland (and sometimes beyond), testing out gear, reviewing random cafés, and occasionally arguing over where the Wi-Fi signal is strongest. If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s possible to live semi-off-grid with a MiFi dongle and a stubborn sense of humour, welcome to the mayhem.
Husband & Wife
I’m Darron — former desk jockey turned nearly-full-time van wanderer. If it’s got wheels, Wi-Fi, or free parking, I’m probably already there. I test gear, work remotely, and review the best offbeat spots Ireland has to offer.
My wonderful wife Kathy, is a nurse working as a report writer for the NHS. Which means we’re both fighting for laptop space in the motorhome when we’re nowhere near an Internet Café.
Why Digital Nomad Northern Ireland?
Digital Nomad NI isn’t just a blog — it’s a rolling experiment in vanlife Ireland, remote work in a motorhome, and discovering what actually works when your office has four wheels and your neighbour is usually a sheep. We’re based in Northern Ireland, but we cover the whole island — from the rugged Donegal coast to quiet loughside park-ups in Fermanagh.
Everything we post here is tried and tested from the road. If the mobile signal’s crap, we’ll say it. If the gear’s useless, we’ll bin it and name names. And if we find a free park-up with a decent 4G signal and killer sunrise view? You’ll hear about it.
The goal is simple: help more people make this lifestyle work without falling for the same tourist traps, overpriced gadgets, or Wi-Fi black holes we stumbled through early on.

Full-time van life and working from the home office 2 days a week, whilst also seeing the kids.

From solar setups to USB fans that barely work, we try it all so you don’t have to.
